目前,全球每年约有7200万吨塑料产 especially fast during the past decade, rising from 1.60 billion tons to 4.13 billion tons in 2019. By 2050, global plastic consumption is expected to reach 6.34 billion tons.

At present, the global plastics manufacturing industry has developed a series of recycling technologies for design, collection, sorting, washing and separation of waste plastics. These technologies have greatly facilitated the recycling of plastics.

In terms of reuse, there are several methods available for recycling used plastics. Mechanical recycling or downcycling is the oldest and most widely used method. It uses high-temperature melting to produce recycled plastic flakes that can then be used to make products such as plastic bags, buckets, pipes, etc. Chemical recycling involves breaking down the polymers in plastic waste and transforming them into new compounds. This process is more energy- and time-efficient than mechanical recycling.

Pyrolysis and gasification are two other methods that can transform plastic waste into energy. Pyrolysis treats the plastic waste by heating it in the absence of oxygen, producing combustible liquids and gases that can be used for fuel. Gasification is similar in concept, but applies higher temperatures and chemical reactions to create synthesis gas that can be burned for energy.

Finally, chemical catalysis can be used to convert plastic waste into value-added products such as lubricants, waxes, and fuels in a process known as chemical recycling. This method allows for higher purity levels more suitable for chemical production than mechanical or chemical recycling.

In conclusion, there are several strategies for the recycling of used plastics. Used plastics can be mechanically recycled, chemically recycled, or converted into energy or valuable products through pyrolysis and gasification. Chemical catalysis can also be applied to convert plastic waste into useful products. As plastic production continues to increase, these recycling technologies will become increasingly important in order to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.
